When Steve Vai was only 13 he started his first rock band called Rayge. He was tutored in guitar by guitar legend Joe Satriani. Satriani pavde the way for Vai's style of music and Vai has since worked with Frank Zappa and David Lee Roth. Steve's big fame came with his band Whitesnake. However his real recognition didn't happen until he put out his first solo album which combined melodic instrumentals and classical-funk mix. It climbed to number 18 on the Billboard Charts.
